National Law School of India University was established in Bangalore in 1987. It was established with a view to cater to the requirements of the legal profession, law teaching and research, and judiciary in the state. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University. The Chairman, Bar Council of India, is the Chairman of the General Council.

B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme
Admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme is purely on the basis of merit as assessed through a Common Law Admission Test conducted for the purpose. A total of 80 students are ordinarily admitted. Classes begin on 1st July every year.
LLM
NLSIU offers One-Year LL.M. Degree programme in two distinct and separate Branches of specialization: (i) Business Laws and (ii) Human Rights Laws. Candidates have an option to join either. T
M.Phil (Master of Philosophy)
Candidates who have an LL.M. Degree (regular mode) from a recognized University securing an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/SAP) are eligible to apply.
Ph.D. Degree in Law
Candidates who have an LL.M. Degree (regular mode) from recognized University securing an aggregate of 55% marks or its equivalent grade (50% of marks or its equivalent grade in case of SC/ST/SAP) are eligible to apply.
LL.D-Degree Programmes
LL.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six year.
