Educationist Atisukhshankar Trivedi was the  first one to express the need for a separate university for the region of South Gujarat through public speeches and writings. Soon he received support from other educationists and academic centres of the region. This resulted in the formation of a committee that drew guidelines and principles for the establishment of a separate university for South Gujarat. This document was submitted to the Chief Minister and Education Minister of Gujarat.

Finally, the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Act was passed by the end of 1965. The government of Gujarat appointed Shri Chandravadan Chunilal Shah as the first Vice-Chancellor and Shri Priyadatt Motiram Joshi as the first Registrar of the University. Thus the University was incorporated during the Third five-year Plan period. The University’s jurisdiction extends to the seven districts of Surat, Navasari, Valsad, Narmada, Dangs, Bharuch and Tapi and the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The University has 34 Government, 59 Grant-in-aid and 190 Self-financed Colleges and 104 Post-graduate Teaching Centres (subjectwise) attached to affiliated colleges.

1. P. Ed. Programme

This is a 2 years professional programme meant for preparing teachers of physical education in classes VI to X and for conducting physical education and sports activities in classes XI and XII. The programme comprises of compulsory and optional theory as well as practical courses and compulsory school internship.

Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (B.P.E.S.)

Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test (written test, sports proficiency test, physical fitness test & marks obtained in the qualifying examination) or any other selection process as per the policy of University with due weight for physical fitness test.

Master Degree in Physical Education and Sports

The eligibility conditions for Masters program  are:

• He/She must be B.P.Ed., B.P.E. or B.Sc. (Health & Physical Education)  fromSwarnimGujarat Sports University or any other University recognized as equivalent for the purpose.
• He /She must have obtained at least 55% marks in B.P.Ed., B.P.E. or B.Sc. (Health & Physical Education).The reservation in seats and relaxation in the qualifying marks for students of reserved categories shall be as per the rules.
• Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test (written test, sports proficiency test, & marks obtained in the qualifying examination) or any other selection process as per the policy of university with due weight for physical fitness test.

Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication

A candidate seeking admission to Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication, Specialization (Sports journalism), must have completed graduation from any recognized University/Institution or its equivalent.

Admission shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in Written Examination and Interview.

Master of Philosophy in Physical Education

The degree of Master of Philosophy Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Education shall be considered an integrated course after the Master’s Degree.

The admission to the M. Phil. Ph.D. (Integrated) in Physical Education programme is done through an entrance test conducted by the University every year on the last Saturday of the month of July or decided by the Vice Chancellor.

Those candidates who have cleared tests of UGC (NET/JRF), GSLET and those who have more than 70 percent score are exempted from the entrance test.

Realising the importance of Sanskrit and the need for revival of Sanskrit and promoting Vedic studies on traditional lines in Gujarat state, Shree Somnath Sanskrit University, Veraval was established by Government of Gujarat through an Act of Legislative Assembly passed on April 1, 2005. Admission to MA, M.Com, M.Li.Sc and M.P.Ed programs is granted on the basis of score in the qualifying examination.

Saurashtra University conducts its own entrance test to offer admission in M.Sc & MCA courses. For MBA, the students have to qualify in Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET).

Admission to M.Phil & Ph.D. programs is offered on the basis of score in university level entrance test followed by an interview. Apart from the university entrance test, the students can also apply on the basis of GATE, SLET score or CSIR (JRF).

Sardar Patel University was established in December 1955 and was recognised under the UGC Act in October 1968. Raksha Shakti University Admission Process

• Admission in BA Security Management course is done on the basis of score in the qualifying examination.

National Institute of Design (NID) was established as National Institute of Industrial Design in 1961 at Ahmedabad.  Today the National Institute of Design is internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions for Industrial, Communication, Textile and IT Integrated (Experiential) Design. It is an autonomous institution under the aegis of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. NID has been declared ‘Institution of National Importance’ by the Act of Parliament, by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014.

The establishment of NID was a result of several forces, both global and local. The Modern Movement, the philosophy of Machine Aesthetics, and revolutionary experimentation in the arts, architecture and design were all taking place at the same time. There was a search for the Indian identity across all aspects of life. At the same time the Government of India was considering establishing an institute of design, under the advice of Pupul Jayaker and other like-minded people. On April 7, 1958, the Eameses presented the India Report to the Government of India. The Eames Report defined the underlying spirit that would lead to the founding of NID and beginning of design education in India. The Report recommended a problem-solving design consciousness that linked learning with actual experience and suggested that the designer could be a bridge between tradition and modernity. The Report called upon future designers to re-examine the alternatives of growth available to the country at that time.

NID Admission Process

Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims

Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims will be conducted at various test centres across India.

Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains

Candidates shortlisted after the DAT Prelims will be invited to appear for the Stage 2. DAT Main exams at Ahmedabad or at all campuses of NID viz Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Kurukshetra and Vijayawada. Excat details of the Test Centre will be mentioned in the DAT Mains Admit Card.

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD)

Applications who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10 plus 2) qualifying examinations in the academic year in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent

Master of Design (M.Des.)

The candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:

Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India. Condition: Applicant must have passed the Bachelor degree examinations at the time of document verification.

OR

Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard.

OR

Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ rchitecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
