More About National School of Drama

The National School of Drama was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1959. It is one of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world. Training in the School is highly intensive and is based on a thorough, comprehensive, carefully planned syllabus which covers every aspect of theatre and in which theory is related to practice. As a part of their training, students are required to produce plays which are then performed before the public.

The National School of Drama provides a three-year full-time Diploma Course for entrants intending to make theatre their profession.

The central aim of the course is to prepare students for the practice of theatre.

To this end a variety of practical skills must be developed and a corpus of knowledge acquired.
Selection

The selection is a two phase process. The candidate should appear for a preliminary examination and if selected then has toappear for a final workshop.

Extension Program

Extension Programmes, under which NSD faculty and alumni conduct workshops in various parts of the country, were launched in 1978 and since then has conducted workshops and programs for adults and children across the country including some in Nepal, Sikkim, Ladhakh and Bhutan as well.

The Traditional Theatre Project initiated in 1980 has facilitated creative interaction between traditional and contemporary theatre artists on a regular basis. Along with an introduction to theatre, these workshops also seek to develop personality and expand the emotional horizons of the participants.

As the National School of Drama is able to admit only twenty students per year from across India, the School also runs an Extension Program, which works as an outreach program seeking to reach out to theatre enthusiasts across regions and languages by conducting theatre workshops of various kinds.

More About National Museum Institute

The National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology was formed on January 27, 1989 and was accorded the status of ‘Deemed to be University’ on April 28, 1989. Since its inception, the Institute has been one of the leading centres in the country for training and research in the field of art and cultural heritage. The Institute is situated within the premise of the National Museum with an objective that students can have direct exposure to the masterpieces of art and cultural heritage and have easy access to the facilities of the National Museum.

With a view that the students can benefit and make a career out of these advanced studies, and because of the fact that mere diplomas may not make them eligible to apply and compete for various posts in the museums, galleries and universities, it was considered appropriate to set up an Institute that could award its own M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. Thus the Society of the National Museum Institute of the History of Art, Conservation and Museology, Delhi was formed.

National Museum Institute Courses

National Museum Institute Admission Process

The written tests for admissions will be of one hour’s duration and after the evaluation of the answer books, interviews will be conducted by a joint Selection Committee for all the courses.

The admissions to all the short-term courses i.e Art Appreciation and Bhartiya Kalanidhi will be made on the basis of ‘first-come first serve’ keeping in view the number of seats/candidates to be accommodated comfortably in the Conference Room.

All admission process will be handled by the Assistant Registrar (Academic) and the Registrar will be the controlling authority. After receiving the applications in response to the advertisements for admissions to M.A. and Ph.D. courses, the candidates will be short-listed to be called for written test/interviews or for Research Advisory Committee, by concerned Head of Department and AR (Academic).

More About Jawaharlal Nehru University

Jawaharlal Nehru University or JNU was established by an act of Parliament in 1966 which eventually started functioning 3 years later in 1969. JNU was one of the first in India to depart from the well- trodden path by emphasizing the continuity of the learning process rather than isolating the final exam as the only tool of measuring achievement. Grading is done throughout the semester, ensuring students’ participation and involvement in curricular work, and re-animating the collaborative process of generating knowledge in the class room. Even at the M.A. level, students are encouraged to carry out independent research projects in limited areas which result in short term paper.

Apart from its regular faculty, JNU has over the years established specially designated ‘Chairs’ – Rajiv Gandhi Chair, Appadorai Chair, Nelson Mandela Chair, Dr. Ambedkar Chair, RBI Chair, SBI Chair, Sukhomay Chakravarty Chair, Environmental Law Chair, Greek Chair, Tamil Chair, and Kannada Chair.
