Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is the result of the efforts of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis who set up the first Statistical Laboratory in the 1920s in Presidency College, Kolkata. The institute was formally established in 1941 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions focused on statistics.
