More About IIEST
Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur was founded in 1856 in the premises of the Writers Building, Calcutta. Known as Bengal Engineering College, the idea of setting up a technical institute was prompted by the requirement of trained engineering personnel for the Public Works Department, the then council of Education. A College of Engineering was started by the name of Civil Engineering College on 24th November, 1856, in the premises of the Writers Building, Calcutta.

IIEST Admission Process
Admission to UG programme is done through the JEE-main examinations for Nine Engineering Departments; namely
- Aerospace and Applied Mechanics
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Science and Technology
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
- Information Technology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgy and Materials Engineering
- Mining Engineering
Five year B. Arch programme is offered by the Architecture, Town and Regional Planning Department for which is also done through JEE-main examinations for Architecture. Most of the PG admission to this Institute will be done through the Centralised Counselling System (CCMT).
PH.D in IIEST
The PhD programme is offered by all the Engineering, Science, HSS, Management and all other specialised Schools and Centres. Admissions are done twice in a year; the first cycle (Starting on July) and the second cycle (starting on January).
