More About Veer Narmad South Gujarat University
Educationist Atisukhshankar Trivedi was the first one to express the need for a separate university for the region of South Gujarat through public speeches and writings. Soon he received support from other educationists and academic centres of the region. This resulted in the formation of a committee that drew guidelines and principles for the establishment of a separate university for South Gujarat. This document was submitted to the Chief Minister and Education Minister of Gujarat.
Finally, the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Act was passed by the end of 1965. The government of Gujarat appointed Shri Chandravadan Chunilal Shah as the first Vice-Chancellor and Shri Priyadatt Motiram Joshi as the first Registrar of the University. Thus the University was incorporated during the Third five-year Plan period. The University’s jurisdiction extends to the seven districts of Surat, Navasari, Valsad, Narmada, Dangs, Bharuch and Tapi and the Union Territory of Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The University has 34 Government, 59 Grant-in-aid and 190 Self-financed Colleges and 104 Post-graduate Teaching Centres (subjectwise) attached to affiliated colleges.

Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Admission Process
Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to M.Phil. / Ph.D. programme in various subjects. Candidate needs to submit online application on university website and hard copy of the online application with relevant documents to the Post Graduate Section
- Students can fill the application form for all the courses offered by VNSGU by visiting the official website.
- A valid score in NEET UG is required for admission to MBBS program while the students have to qualify in NEET PG for MD and MS programs.
- MBA admission is based on CMAT score followed by counselling.
- For BFA and BID courses, VNSGU conducts Fine Arts Entrance Test and Interior Design Entrance Test respectively.
- Final admission is based on qualifying the course-specific test and interview followed by counselling, if applicable.
- The admission to M.Phil & Ph.D. is granted on the basis of written test, Viva-voce and Presentation.
- JRF/ NET/ SLET/ GSLET/ GATE score holders or M.Phil degree holders will be exempted from the Ph.D. entrance test.
