Yogi Vemana University was established in 2006 to provide higher education to the students and researchers of the backward region of Rayalseema region in general and Y.S. R district in particular.

The University was earlier the Sri Venkateswara University Post Graduate Centre which was elevated to a University in 2006 to encourage and promote quality research among the students in the region. At present the university has 115 faculty members and about 200 non-teaching staff.  It is an affiliating university where students are enrolled in B.Ed, MCA, MBA and other postgraduate courses.

Must have a PG degree in the concerned or allied subjects and must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate or equivalent GPA.

Sri Venkateswara University Admission Process

For admission to all of the PG level courses, apart from MBA and MCA programmes, candidates have to go through an entrance test, named SVUCET, administered by the university itself. To apply online for SVUCET, candidates are requested to check out the official website.

The candidate should have passed the qualifying examination with a minimum of 40% marks in the concerned subject. For the courses where the admission is based on the degree as a whole, the aggregate percentage in the group subjects should be 40% of marks. For admission into M.Ed., the aggregate marks in B.Ed. should be 50%. For admission into M.Sc. Tech in Hydrogeology, the aggregate marks in M.Sc. should be 50%. Pass is sufficient for SC/ST candidates.

Candidates who qualify themselves in the SVUCET for that year, but do not have the requisite percentage of marks in the qualifying examination or not satisfying the subject eligibility requirement are not eligible for admission.

Research in Sri Venkateswara University

The University has a strong research sell and has been encouraging research through constitution of Departmental Research Committees, Research Advisory Committee and Academic Standing Committee. It alos promotes inter-disciplinary research. Till date more than 60 seminars and 27 workshops were organised which witnessed scientists and researchers from all over the world presenting their papers. In addition, the faculty and research scholars have actively participated and presented papers in the National and International seminars and conferences.

The University has three centres of National and International recognition, viz. Aerosol and Atmospheric Research Laboratory (AARL), DBT-BIF Facility, and Herbarium.

The AARL was established in the department of Physics as the nodal centre with all infrastructure and research facilities and focuses on atmospheric aerosols, climate change and health effects, meteorological modelling and climate research.

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India provided financial support for the establishment of Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) for the promotion of Biology Teaching through Bioinformatics (BTBI) at the University as a central facility, under the Biotechnology Information Network (BTISnet) program.

The School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPA Vijayawada) specialises in education and research in the field of urban planning and architecture. Along with SPA Bhopal and SPA Delhi, it is one of the three School of Planning and Architecture (SPAs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2008.

SPAV Courses

Both the departments, Architecture and Planning have two undergraduate programs each. The Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program is a 5-year under graduate program and the Bachelor of Planning (B.Plng) is a 4-year under graduate program. Other than these programs, the Doctoral Program leading to a Ph.D. Degree has also been introduced from 2012-13. While the Bachelor of Architecture prepares students for the professional field and provides exposure to a variety of fields, Master of Architecture course offers an opportunity to expand students’ knowledge base for developing solutions for sustainability of Built environment.

Since 2008, the Department of Planning at SPAV has been involved in shaping young minds by providing education, training and cutting edge research and professional consultancy in the region. The students of Bachelors and Masters degree programmes are equipped to study, design and plan cities and regions in aspects of infrastructure, transportation, social amenities, land use zoning, housing, informal sector, ecology, and governance, using state of the art tools, techniques and theories.

The Department started with the four year undergraduate degree programme of Bachelors of Planning in 2008, and has expanded its horizon by starting the two year mastersdegree programme of Masters in Planning with specialisations in ‘Environmental Planning and Management’ and ‘Urban and Regional Planning’ in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The Department also has a Doctoral Research programme since 2012. The students of Planning are exposed to proficient planning expertise through full-time faculty and distinguished visiting faculty. The Alumni of the Department are successfully working across India and the world as professional planners with the government and private sector.

Admissions to the under graduate programme is through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, India.
