More About Utkal University
Utkal University is the oldest university of Odisha and the 17th oldest in India. Initially Utkal University was an affiliating body but in 1949 it took over the management of the under- graduate Department of Law from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and established its first constituent college now known as Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack.
Utkal University opened a few other Post-Graduate Departments such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Oriya and English during the years 1966-69 in its new campus at Vani Vihar. The Department of Sociology and Labour Welfare and the Department of Geography was set up in 1970.
Utkal University now covers more than 9 districts, namely Angul, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri. At present, the University has twenty-seven post-graduate teaching and research departments in the campus.

Utkal University Admission Process
Selection will be made on the basis of merit determined as per the following criteria:
Admission to the P.G. courses
Admission to PG courses shall be on the basis of 50% career and 50% entrance test.
For admission into P.G. Course in Psychology the main relevant Honours subject is Psychology whereas other Honours subjects are to be treated as allied Honours subjects.
Career marks shall be awarded for relevant Honours subject only.
For admission into LL.M
60% weightage for career up to Bachelor’s Degree and 40% weightage for LL.B (First Class – 40, Second Class – 25) for assessing career marks (50%).
The weightage of entrance test will be 50% like any other P.G. Courses.
For admission into PMIR 40% weightage for career, 40% for written test and 20% weightage for G.D. & P.I.
