Gangadhar Meher University was established in 1944 with the name of Sambalpur College, which was later renamed in 1949. It finally gained the University status on 30th May 2015 with the aim to provide higher education opportunity to the tribal dominated region of Odisha. The institution caters to the needs of the poor and underprivileged students of the area.
