CBSE to Conduct Class 10 Board Exams Twice a Year from 2026

New Delhi: Starting in 2026, students appearing for the Class 10 Board exams under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will have the option to take the exams twice a year. The two sessions will be conducted in February and May, allowing candidates the flexibility to choose which session they want to appear for.

Key Highlights of the New Exam System

  • Students can take both exams or skip the second attempt if they are satisfied with their first attempt’s scores.
  • They may also choose to appear for specific subjects in the second session to improve their scores.
  • The first phase of the Class 10 Board exams will be held from February 17 to March 6, 2026, while the second phase will take place from May 5 to May 20, 2026.
  • Both sessions will be based on the full syllabus and prescribed textbooks, ensuring uniformity in assessment.
  • Examination centres will remain the same for both sessions.

CBSE Seeks Public Feedback

On Tuesday, CBSE approved the draft guidelines for implementing the biannual exam system. The proposed framework is now open for public review, and stakeholders can submit their feedback and suggestions until March 9, 2025. The final policy will be formulated after considering the inputs received.

Changes in Examination Fees

CBSE has also decided to revise the examination fees, which will now be collected at the time of application. Further details regarding the fee structure are expected to be announced soon.

The decision to introduce two Board exam sessions per year aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to reduce academic pressure and give students multiple opportunities to perform their best.
