Guwahati: Dr. Prahlad Kumar Baruah, a distinguished physicist from Guwahati, has brought immense honor to Assam’s academic and research community by securing the highly prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship from the European Commission. This globally competitive award recognizes his exceptional contributions to physics, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, Dr. Baruah has consistently showcased academic brilliance. His selection for this esteemed fellowship underscores his dedication to scientific research and innovation.
An alumnus of Little Flower School, Guwahati, and Cotton College, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Hindu College, University of Delhi, followed by a Master’s from the University of Delhi and a Ph.D. from IIT Guwahati in 2019. He attributes his success to his Assamese roots and strong family support.
With an outstanding evaluation score of 95.8%, Dr. Baruah’s research on plasmonic heterojunctions for pollutant degradation aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Fully funded by the European Commission, he will commence his research at a prestigious university in Lyon, France, in December 2025, further advancing his contributions to science and academia.
